FAQ
1. “Why is your poke made to order instead of pre-marinated?”
Ry:
We make all our poke to order because that’s how we eat it at home. Once fish sits in sauce too long, it starts to break down and lose its texture and freshness. By making it fresh every time, you get the cleanest flavors and the best quality. It might take a little longer, but it’s worth it.
2. “Why is poke more expensive in Hawai‘i?”
Ry:
We use high-grade, fresh fish—and in Hawai‘i, we understand that good fish isn’t cheap. We’re not cutting corners or bulking bowls with fillers. Every bowl we make reflects the care and quality we put into it. It’s not about making it fancy, just doing it right.
3. “What makes your poke different from other places?”
Ry:
We serve poke the way we grew up eating it—simple, fresh, and full of local flavor. Our styles are inspired by family recipes and local ingredients, and everything is made fresh when you order. No deli case, no shortcuts—just real poke made with aloha.
4. “Do your kids really help out at the shack?”
Ry:
Yup! Rylah and Ryzen help with prep, cleaning, stocking, even events and social media. It’s all part of being a family-run business. They’re learning a lot and we’re bonding along the way. We’re proud to raise them around hard work and community.
5. “What bowl should I try if it’s my first time here?”
Ry:
If it’s your first time, I’d say go with our best-seller—Firecracker and Limu combo with a scoop of crab salad. It’s the perfect mix of traditional and bold. Or if you like spice, try our Lao & Kasian Dynamite bowl—it’s unique to us and packed with flavor.
