Pasadena Showed Us How Far We Could Go

Pasadena wasn’t supposed to happen so soon.

We had just opened Huntington Beach, still catching our breath from bringing something so rooted in Hawaiʻi across the ocean. The plan was to slow down, learn, and take our time. But then Pasadena came up, and something about it didn’t let us ignore it. It felt different. Strong community, people who care about food, people who notice the details. We went back and forth on it. It didn’t feel “safe.” It felt like a stretch. But something in us said go.

So we did.

We moved fast. Built it out ourselves, figuring things out as we went. It wasn’t perfect. There were things we planned to come back and fix, things we thought we’d upgrade later. But when we opened the doors, something unexpected happened. People showed up. And they kept showing up.

Word spread quick. Lines started forming. The energy in that space felt alive in a way we hadn’t experienced before. It wasn’t just busy, it was different. It felt like confirmation. Like all the risk, all the second-guessing, all the quiet doubt we carried… it meant something now.

Pasadena became our busiest shop almost overnight. But more than that, it gave us clarity.

For the first time, we could really see it. This wasn’t just something that worked in Kahuku. It wasn’t just something that translated to one beach town. There was something deeper here. Something people connected with no matter where they were from.

We also found a new kind of creativity in that space. It’s where we introduced our house-made fried wonton chips and built what became the Tsunami Poke Nachos. It started as an idea, just playing around with flavors and texture, and turned into something people couldn’t get enough of. That freedom to try, to experiment, to evolve, it all came from the energy Pasadena gave us. And the shop itself, we never went back and “perfected” it. We left it how it was. Because those small imperfections, the quick decisions, the things we learned the hard way… that place holds all of it. It’s a reminder of who we are. Not polished. Not manufactured. Just figuring it out, staying real, and getting better every day.

Pasadena didn’t just become another location. It became a turning point.

It’s where we stopped thinking small. Where we realized this could go further than we ever allowed ourselves to believe. And if you step inside, you can still feel that moment.
