Bringing Ry’s Poke Shack to Huntington Beach was more than opening another location—it was a leap across the Pacific and a new chapter in our story.


What started as a small family idea in Hawaiʻi eventually grew into something we never imagined. After building Ry’s Poke Shack around our community and roots on Oʻahu, we began hearing from visitors who experienced our food while traveling in Hawaiʻi. Many of them were from California, and they kept asking the same question: When are you bringing this to the mainland?
For a long time, it was just a conversation. Expanding beyond Hawaiʻi felt like a big step. Poke is deeply tied to island culture, and we wanted to make sure that wherever we went, we could carry that authenticity with us.


Huntington Beach felt like the right place. Known as Surf City USA, Huntington Beach shares a lot of the same coastal energy that we grew up around in Hawaiʻi—long days in the ocean, tight-knit communities, and people who appreciate simple, fresh food after a day by the water. Opening here allowed us to bring the flavors of the islands to another surf town that understands that lifestyle.


In 2025, we opened our doors in the heart of downtown at 126 Main Street, marking our first expansion to the mainland and one of the earliest examples of a Hawaiʻi-based specialty poke shop operating simultaneously in Hawaiʻi and California. ()
But what mattered most to us wasn’t just expanding—it was doing it the right way.
We flew in from Oʻahu to help build the space and bring the same approach we started with back home: fresh fish, bold flavors, and poke prepared the way we grew up eating it. No shortcuts, no gimmicks—just the kind of poke you’d expect to find in Hawaiʻi, served with the same island hospitality.


Huntington Beach quickly became more than just a new market for us. It became a bridge between two coastal communities that share a love for the ocean, surf culture, and great seafood.


Today, Ry’s Poke Shack in Huntington Beach represents that connection. It’s a little piece of Hawaiʻi on the California coast—where locals, surfers, travelers, and longtime poke fans can come together over a fresh bowl and good conversation.
